Blocked Account or Salary? How to Show Enough Money for Your Ausbildung Visa

One of the most confusing parts of the German Ausbildung visa application is the financial proof requirement. The embassy needs to see that you can support yourself financially in Germany — but how exactly do you prove this?

Good news: if you already have a signed Ausbildungsvertrag with a decent salary, you are probably already covered. This guide explains exactly what the German Embassy in Manila accepts as financial proof.

Option 1: Your Training Salary (Ausbildungsvergütung)

Your training contract (Ausbildungsvertrag) is the most straightforward proof. The embassy uses this to confirm you will have regular income starting from your first month in Germany.

Your training salary is accepted as sufficient proof if:

  • Your monthly salary meets or exceeds the German cost-of-living threshold (~€934/month)
  • Your contract is signed by both parties and clearly shows the salary
  • Your contract states the start date, duration, and profession

Typical Training Salaries (Year 1)

ProfessionMonthly Salary (Year 1)
Healthcare/Nursing (Pflegefachmann)€1,190 – €1,400+
Elderly Care (Altenpfleger)€1,000 – €1,300
IT (Fachinformatiker)€700 – €1,100
Hospitality (Hotelfachmann/Koch)€600 – €950
Retail/Commerce (Kaufmann)€600 – €900

💡 Pro Tip: The salary increases each year of training. Even if Year 1 is lower, your contract shows the full 3-year salary schedule — which strengthens your application.

⚠️ Watch Out: If your salary is below €934/month, you may need a Sperrkonto or sponsorship letter. Always check the current threshold on the German Embassy Manila website.

Option 2: Blocked Account (Sperrkonto)

A Sperrkonto is a special German bank account where money is deposited and “blocked” — you can only withdraw a fixed monthly amount (~€934/month). It is typically used when training salary alone is not sufficient.

How Much Do You Need?

€934 per month × the number of months covered (minimum 12 months = ~€11,208 for the first year).

How to Open a Sperrkonto from the Philippines

ProviderNotes
FintibaOnline, widely accepted, designed for international applicants
ExpatrioSimilar to Fintiba, includes optional health insurance bundling
Deutsche BankTraditional bank option, more paperwork but highly accepted

💡 Pro Tip: Fintiba and Expatrio are the fastest options for Filipino applicants. Both have English interfaces and can be set up entirely online in 1–2 weeks.

⚠️ Watch Out: A Sperrkonto has setup fees (~€50–€100) plus the required deposit. Budget for this if needed.

Option 3: Formal Sponsorship Letter (Verpflichtungserklärung)

If you have a relative or friend living and working in Germany, they can sign a Verpflichtungserklärung — a formal declaration at the local Ausländerbehörde that they will cover your costs if needed. This is less common for Ausbildung applicants but can be a helpful backup.

Which Option Is Right for You?

Your SituationRecommended Option
Training salary ≥ €934/monthYour Ausbildungsvertrag is sufficient ✅
Training salary < €934/monthOpen a Sperrkonto (Fintiba or Expatrio)
Have a German sponsorVerpflichtungserklärung as additional proof
Contract shows no salary⚠️ Red flag — contact your employer immediately

⚠️ Watch Out: If your training contract does not mention a salary at all, something is wrong. A legitimate Ausbildung must pay a salary by German law.
